Ever feel like you just have to get off the bench? Wanna kick your bag and eat some dirt? Need a new swing? A change of position? Some danger in your slide? A new inning in life?
Admittedly, my heart is feeling a tad fidgety at present--I believe I have been struck blind with wander lust (of a healthy sort). If I don't make my move, well, I might just miss the line-up.
At this moment, I'm busting to go to uncharted bases and to try something thrilling because my heart won't sit still. It's homeward bound with a fired-up attitude or bust.
I'm ready to risk a thousand times over and to run a thousand times through. I'm eager to pray over a thousand tomorrows. To knock through the pages, whole chapters at a time.
To break some bats and hold nothing back. To jump the catcher and tighten my belt. To spit on the balls and pitch them all. To run. To love. To learn. To change. It's time for technicolor. Pop the corn, boys. Let the game begin.
Welcome to my verbal joy ride, my thrill with words, my prayer. The dust is blowing, Willie. The tide is changing. And my heart's beating wildly on my sleeve. It's His voice rooting for me from the stands. Believe and follow me.
The desire for new, the hope for change, the thrill of fresh beginnings are deeply woven into our very souls.
With every season, with every change, with every strike out, with every home run, God will have His way. He is the Divine Appointment Maker. He calls us by name. He created us to be internally satisfied in Him but externally discontented at times. Why? Because without resistance, we don't learn. Without hardship, we won't move. We prop our feet and take a smoke. On the bench.
I think a new day's dawning. Count me in for a wild ride and a moment or two in the sun.
"....We're born again. There's new grass on the field....Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes; You know I think it's time to give this game a ride. Just to hit the ball and touch 'em all - a moment in the sun; It's gone and you can tell that one goodbye! So, put me in, coach. I'm ready to play. Today. Put me in, Coach. I'm ready to play today. Look at me. Gotta be centerfield." -- "Centerfield" by John Fogerty.
"Here am I. Send me!"
